Ludo: Is she all right? Why aren’t you answering your phone?

Ludo: Fuck, I’m freaking out. Is Juniper okay?

Ludo: Answer the fucking phone!

I hit Call on my phone. He answered in one ring. “Thank fuck. Where the hell have you been? Is she okay?”

I hesitated before I answered. “She’s okay. How far away are you?”

“Why did you pause?” he snapped, and I rolled my eyes.

Sighing heavily, I walked into her kitchen. “There’s a long story, and I think it’s best if it comes from her.”

“But she’s okay?”

“Yeah, Ludo. She’s gonna be fine.”

He growled. I understood his frustration at my vagueness, but I didn’t know how to tell the man who obviously loved his best friend, that his other best friend had fucked his dream girl and then freaked out. That definitely wasn’t my business, despite the fact I was kind of in a relationship with one of the parties involved, and in a fake relationship with the other.

I could hear Ludo heaving in calming breaths. “Thank you for rushing over there. I’m sorry I snapped at you.”

Smiling despite the circumstances, I dropped my voice. “You don’t have to thank me for taking care of the people you love, Laglegur. It’s what lovers do for each other.”
